B2B marketing consultancy Onefish Twofish goes carbon neutral

Having grown from 2 to 10 people in just 5 years, Onefish Twofish recognised its increasing responsibility to the environment and set about reducing its carbon footprint in all possible areas.

It worked with Carbon Footprint Ltd., which carried out a carbon healthcheck, reviewing the carbon management practices already in place, and recommending steps to achieve the business’s low carbon goals.   While Onefish Twofish got a big green tick in certain areas – ‘Freecycling’ old office furniture, turning electrical equipment off when not needed and frequently using trains instead of driving – it, like many companies, also had room for improvement.

Carbon Footprint Ltd found that in 2009- 2010 Onefish Twofish used 14.91 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) equivalent – that’s more than the weight of three elephants – mostly through gas and electricity usage. The company committed to offset this, and has also set targets for reducing its environmental impact in the future. It will monitor energy use on an ongoing basis, and assess the environmental impact of any new process or service it is considering introducing.

We're very proud that we no longer leave a mark on the environment as we go about our work. We know this is just one step amongst many other important actions to take to make sure we are considerate of the community we work in. We fish like a clean pond!"

Staff were given a choice of five ways to offset the company’s carbon emissions, and voted for 27 native broad-leaved trees to be planted. Trees absorb CO2 during photosynthesis to produce oxygen and wood, and each tree planted will ‘breathe’ in around 1 tonne of CO2 over its first 50 years. As well as offsetting emissions, the trees will provide habitats for wildlife and enhance the landscape.
