To drink or not to drink – thoughts on what may turn out to be the best medicine on the market

Oct. 20, 2010 - PRLog -- Alcohol  (ethanol) reduces the toxic effect of formaldehyde, acts as a vasodilator, relaxes you and lubricates social interactions, counteracts the toxic effects of formaldehyde produced by artificial sweeteners, canned fruits and vegetables and lowers cholesterol levels but its still looked upon as an addictive and dangerous drug. I say, too much of anything is bad for you!

One must drink because one is thirsty; drinking an alcoholic beverage is a whole different scenario. First of all one must deal with the puritans who have lots of caveats about drinking, totally backed by the authorities and the AA. On the other hand abstinence from alcohol leads to a shorter life, a six-member team led by psychologist Charles Holahan of the University of Texas at Austin that over a 20-year period found mortality rates highest for those who were not current drinkers, regardless of whether they used to be alcoholics or not. http://winedineguide.com/w/?p=3361

We then discovered that ethanol reduces the toxic effect of formaldehyde therefore a must have if your dietary choices point you toward artificial sweeteners or if you use canned and bottled fruits or vegetables you should be made aware of methanol poisoning. The antidote? – The consumption of “small amount’s of ethanol, which acts as a competitive inhibitor of methanol’s conversion to formaldehyde.

So is there a parallel between Hamlet’s musing on the comparison between the pain of life and the fear of the uncertainty of death and of possible damnation of suicide?
I would most definitely agree with the thought that there is a choice between choosing to drink or not, and the answer is quite clear especially when you consider that excess can be harmful in all walks of life http://winedineguide.com/w/?p=3352
Having too much of anything anything will be harmful, why not attack people who eat too much, or people who have McDonald's that besides being the font of cholesterol it has been nicknamed McCruelty http://www.megaessays.com/viewpaper/58502.html for animal suffrage, followed by many other fast food chains.

Drinking in moderation can be good for your body and great for your soul, it disconnects you on demand from the daily worries and its great to relax to, the problem is that when used excessively it allows your mouth to engage before getting approval from your brain; it can impair your memory severely and it can lead to non lethal falls and other mishaps (like, say, cheating on your spouse in a drunken haze) that can screw up your life.

On the other hand alcohol lubricates social interactions, vital for maintaining mental and physical health and most likely leading to a longer healthier life.  So, there is a parallel between drinking in moderation and Hamlet’s musing. The only difference being that life and death has no gray areas while alcohol does and when used properly, it may be the best medicine on the market.
