Oct. 19, 2010 - PRLog -- Peshtigo, WI:  Rapid Response Solutions, LLC (www.CPRtimer.com) announces the Rhythm of Life CPR timer is available for purchase.  The Rhythm of Life is a pocket-sized CPR timer, also known as a metronome.  This device is designed to assist both medical professionals and trained lay rescuers in providing high-quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) through the use of clear visual and audible prompts.

Since 2005 the American Heart Association (AHA) has advocated that high-quality CPR is the most critical component of the resuscitation of a pulseless patient.   Previously, medical professionals had placed heavy emphasis on respiratory assistance, intravenous (IV) access, and medication administration rather than focusing on the quality of the CPR performed.   Recent studies have shown that despite the AHA’s updated guidelines, the quality of multiple parameters of CPR are frequently inconsistent and often do not meet published guideline recommendations, even when performed by well-trained hospital staff.   It is often difficult for rescuers to perform high-quality CPR with appropriate chest compression rate/depth and ventilation rate/duration while managing other aspects of the cardiac arrest.   Research published in the AHA’s 2005 Guidelines showed that audio/visual prompts could significantly improve adherence to current CPR Guidelines.  The recently released AHA 2010 Guidelines for CPR place even stronger emphasis on the importance of chest compressions.  These latest guidelines have altered the traditional approach of first providing rescue breaths to a patient before performing chest compressions and now recommend immediately starting chest compressions.  The AHA 2010 updates also promote a chest compression rate of at least 100/minute, avoiding excessive ventilation, and rotating chest compressors every two minutes.  The Rhythm of Life is compliant with both the 2005 and 2010 Guidelines for CPR as promoted by the American Heart Association.

The Rhythm of Life provides three distinct audible tones and visual feedback to guide the rescuer to compress the patient’s chest, ventilate the patient, and provide interventions after every two minutes of resuscitation.   Medical professionals from all areas of healthcare such as clinics, pre-hospital EMS, and in-hospital environments can now benefit from the guidance provided by the Rhythm of Life.

Rapid Response Solutions is a startup company based in Peshtigo, WI.  The Rhythm of Life was created by Mike Orlando, a 27-year-old paramedic in response to the 2005 American Heart Association Guidelines for CPR and a need for CPR timing devices designed for use within the healthcare industry.
