This coin is one ounce of .9999 pure silver graded MS70 featuring  a stunningly detailed picture of a lone timber wolf overlooking his domain. This beautiful but very fierce predator is shown standing on a snow covered slope with large snow-capped pines behind him, while the full moon overhead lights this distinctly Canadian scene.

The Canadian Timber Wolf will be the first coin in a 3 year, Canadian wildlife 6 coin series. The Royal Canadian Mint’s Ottawa facility will be introducing two annual issues through 2014. Wolves being a popular subject because of their beauty, pride and freedom, and this is why, this coin was picked to be the lead off coin in this special limited edition wildlife series.  The Royal Canadian Mint has put a strict and low mintage on these special coins and so the new issue in this series will not be released until March 2011.

William Woodruff, Senior Mint Engraver, created the wolf design on the reverse.  The obverse shows the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, this was done by Canadian portrait artist, Susanna Blunt.  Minted from one ounce of 99.99% pure silver, the face value of this coin is $5.00
