Exclusive: Full Transcript Of Lord Browne's Live Online Q&a With Students On The Student Room

On Wednesday 13 October Lord Browne engaged in a live online discussion with students to discuss their concerns and opinions about his HE funding review. A copy of the full transcript will be published on our website on 15 October.

Oct. 15, 2010 - PRLog -- Originally scheduled for an hour of live engagement with students, Lord Browne entered the dedicated 'Ask Lord Browne' forum at 17:00 and the student responses came thick and fast. In order to answer as many questions as possible Lord Browne opted to extend his time online until 18:30.

In total he managed to answer 33 questions on a variety of topics, which included:

   * How funding for STEM subjects will be affected?
   * How could changes effect postgraduates and part time students?
   * How will international students be effected?
   * How will the proposals effect students from lower and middle class backgrounds?

In total the discussion has prompted over 3,000 posts across the dedicated Ask Lord Browne and University Funding Review forums, each one further adding to the debate amongst students about the pro's and con's to Lord Browne's report.

Additionally a 1000 strong survey of 'Student Reaction to University Fees and Funding Review' will be made available soon.

Current survey results have already found:

Students reconsidering higher education - 43% of students say that they won't go to uni if there is a significant rise in tuition fees

Student experience will be affected by rise in fees - Over 60% of students wouldn't have gone to university if fees had been £7000+

Cost will affect choice of Uni - Over 60% of students would change course/university or both for a cheaper option

Students will change their vote - Almost 60% of students would change their next election vote if tuition fees go up
