Oct. 15, 2010 - PRLog -- National Day Nurseries Association (NDNA) Cymru today announced that it will be working with the Forestry Commission Wales to offer nurseries throughout Wales support to develop outdoor learning opportunities for children aged three upwards. The Forestry Commission Wales will be supporting nurseries across the nation to make use of the outdoors by working with individual settings by appointment as part of the ‘Woodlands for Learning’ initiative.

The aim of the Forestry Commission Wales is to support and develop children and young people’s understanding of the outdoors environment  by providing a range of fun activities, including ‘mini beasts’, ‘environmental art’ and ‘shelter building’, which can all be tailored to meet your setting’s requirements.

Sandra Welsby, National Development Manager, NDNA Cymru, says: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with the Forestry Commission Wales.  It is great that they are able to provide experienced staff to demonstrate to practitioners what they can do with their existing outdoor areas to offer learning experiences for children.  It is vital that support such as this is available to all nurseries throughout Wales. We look forward to hearing from settings about the difference this support has made to benefit children’s learning experiences”.

Carol Travers, South and East Wales Area Manager, Woodlands for Learning, says: “The outdoors has a great deal to offer in terms of learning experiences for children. Woodlands offer an accessible, exciting and constantly changing learning environment and we are delighted that we are able to offer this support so that children can really benefit from the hands on experiences offered by the outdoors environment.”
