Oct. 14, 2010 - PRLog -- Previously with MG Associates, Dr Gray has over 20 years experience in the chemical analysis, testing and assessment of construction materials. He has particular expertise in corrosion mechanisms in buildings and structures and in the detection and correction of defects. As well as working as a freelance consultant, he has held several senior positions in materials testing and laboratory management related to materials technology for civil engineering and building construction.

The appointment reinforces Fugro Aperio’s move into structural fabric testing and construction materials consultancy to complement its established NDI (non-destructive investigation) capabilities.

Dr Gray will head up Fugro Aperio’s new services which include condition and dilapidation surveys, construction materials testing, component performance evaluation and structural fabric investigations. Failure investigations and recommendations for treatment strategies are also part of the extended portfolio, together with quantitative defect and safety surveys related to property acquisition and post-fire events.

As well as being expert in cement and concrete science, Dr Gray is vastly experienced in the assessment of deterioration and its remediation in reinforced concrete.  He also has extensive knowledge of floor structure testing that will enhance Fugro Aperio’s existing capabilities.

Dr Gray is a chartered chemist and Member of the Royal Society of Chemistry. He is also a member of the Society of Chemical Industry where he has held a number of elected posts including chair of the construction materials group.

Holistic

Fugro Aperio can now provide a holistic, multi-disciplinary approach to assessing and reporting on building structure as well as on the condition, performance and overall ‘health’ of the building fabric.

Simon Brightwell, structures director at Fugro Aperio, said: “As well as mapping and reporting the internal detail of structures, we can follow on with interpretative consultancy on the causes of defects, corrosion and failure, and how they can be corrected.  We now provide a fully integrated package of building assessment services and can offer greater coordination and cost-effectiveness in delivering the data required by architects, engineers, property owners and managers when planning maintenance, refurbishment, conversion work or asset sale.”

The company is experienced in assessing a broad spectrum of public and private sector assets. Projects range from modern construction, heritage buildings and monuments to bridges, tunnels, and concrete and masonry infrastructure. In addition to structural investigations, Fugro Aperio has dedicated survey capabilities for ground engineering and the transport sector.

Fugro Aperio is a member of the Fugro Group, the world’s leading integrated geoscience company providing a wide range of information and advice to the resource and construction industries. More at http://fugro-aperio.com
