Oct. 13, 2010 - PRLog -- Bloomington, IN- 10/12/2010- Most people are familiar with the idea of “holiday weight gain” between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Eve. Although mostly thought to occur between these two holidays, for many individuals the beginning of this cycle starts almost a month earlier at Halloween.

The Halloween season and the weeks leading up to it brings loads and loads of candy into the home.  With the constant temptation of candy around many people succumb and  indulge in the sweet treats.  Continuing with this trend through the holiday season can lead to an average weight gain of 2-7 lbs before the New Year’s holiday.

Local fitness professionals Ryan Ketchum and Wil Fleming are aiming to help you keep those unwanted pounds off while also giving you an innovative look at exercise.  During week the fitness boot camp workouts will each have a theme that is representative of the Halloween season.  The week will end with a large boot camp that incorporates only pumpkins as the workout tool!

“This is our third year in a row running our Freaky Fat Loss Boot Camp and we could not be more excited about this year!  We have some special workouts planned for those that are attending and hope the be able to keep any extra weight off our campers that they might be gaining due to the increase in candy around the house this time of year,” says Ketchum.

This year’s camp will go to help Campus Life of Bloomington. Campus Life provides mentors in the lives of students in the Bloomington area. “At Campus Life we try to encourage our students to live a balanced life. That means socially, spiritually, emotionally and physically. That is why a partnership with Force Fitness makes perfect sense for us. We love their approach to exercise and a healthy lifestyle and are excited for this fundraiser as it will help in the effort to continually place mentors in the lives of Bloomington high school students,” states David Schunk, Director of Campus Life at Bloomington High School South.

“One of the biggest problems that we see is people actually starting their holiday weight gain around Halloween when the junk food starts to become easily accessible to most people.  With a few extra workouts and some quick nutrition tips people can hold off those pounds and possibly even make some fat loss progress during this time of year,” states Fleming.

Here are a few tips for the upcoming Halloween season.

1) Keep the bite size candy around instead of the larger variety. - While this doesn’t make a huge difference and it would be preferable that you didn’t have any junk, it is going to be better than eating a large portion of the candy.  Remember, you can only have one!

2) Don’t buy your candy until the last minute.- If you don’t have it you won’t eat it!  If you have to have the good stuff and are afraid it will be sold out go ahead and buy it, but you have to keep it out of sight and out of mind until you are ready to hand it out.

3) Get rid of all your candy on Halloween night.-  Don’t keep the extras!  There are plenty of great places that would be happy to give out your extra candy for a great cause, so don’t hog the candy for yourself!
