Oct. 13, 2010 - PRLog -- AGOURA HILLS, CALIF.--Kids attending the Triunfo YMCA childcare program at Sumac Elementary School in Agoura Hills are raising money this month to help their four-legged friends. Money raised through the kids recycling efforts in October will be donated to the Agoura Hills Animal Shelter.

"Each month, the kids come up with a community service project," says Jenna Grossman, Triunfo YMCA program director. "This month, they are turning recyclables, including cans and bottles, into cash and donating the money to the shelter."

An animal shelter volunteer recently came to the childcare site to share information with the children so they could decide how the money they collect will be allocated. "The kids decided they wanted the money to go towards medication for sick animals as well as for animal food," says Grossman. "The kids not only feel the satisfaction of helping care for needy animals, but they are learning about recycling and how to manage money."

The Sumac childcare site is one of four in Agoura Hills and Westlake Village operated by the Triunfo YMCA and four childcare sites in Thousand Oaks, Santa Rosa Valley and Moorpark operated by the Conejo Valley YMCA. Morning childcare begins at 6:30 a.m. Afterschool childcare ends at 6:00 p.m. For more information, registration forms and fee schedules, call the Conejo Valley YMCA at 805-523-7613 or Triunfo YMCA 818-707-9622, or visit www.sevymca.org.
