Oct. 12, 2010 - PRLog -- Novato, CA, October 10, 2010 – Therapist and TimelyTalks.com owner, Dr. Sheryl Morgan, has developed a “Mindfulness To Go™” Series, which is aimed at developing a healthy relationship with the stresses of life. This series focuses on a practical  way to successfully manage the stress associated with the everyday difficulties in life related to health, chronic pain, disease, depression, anxiety and aging.  This six-session course was adapted from Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), developed at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center.

Dr. Morgan’s passion for these methods grew even stronger when she participated in “The Sister Study,” a nation-wide study of women’s health.  The study first published its findings in the journal Cancer Epidemiology Biomarkers and Prevention. The early findings revealed that among women with both higher perceived stress and elevated levels of the stress hormone epinephrine, the difference in telomere length was equivalent to or greater than that of the effects of smoking or ten years of aging.   Additionally, researchers found that the negative effects of stress may be greater in older women.”

These extraordinary findings relate directly to the 2009 Nobel Prize winning discovery of how chromosomes are protected by telomeres.  A telomere is a region of repetitive DNA at the end of a chromosome, which protects the end of the chromosome from deterioration.  Shorter telomere length is seen with aging and has been associated with early mortality and chronic diseases.

Whatever stresses we are facing, the methods used in Mindfulness To Go™ will allow us to move toward a healthier, less stressful life - and can substantially decrease the symptoms related to stress.

Dr. Morgan has been working with clients for over 30 years, many of whom have struggled with making the changes they want and need in their lives.  Often the need is health related.  Sometimes the need is financially related and sometimes it involves feelings associated with stress, anxiety, depression and illness.
