Cape Coral Woman Wins 2010 "So You Think You're Thrifty" Title

Goodwill Industries of Southwest Florida has concluded its second-annual search for Southwest Florida's thriftiest shopper. Rachell Skerlec of Cape Coral received nearly 700 votes to receive the "So You Think You're Thrifty" crown.

Oct. 18, 2010 - PRLog -- Rachell Skerlec, a stay-at-home mother of three from Cape Coral, has been named the winner of the second annual “So You Think You’re Thrifty” contest.  Goodwill Industries of Southwest Florida, the contest’s sponsor, made the announcement on Thursday, October 7 at the grand opening of the agency’s new Fort Myers bookstore.

Skerlec’s prize package includes a $250 Goodwill gift certificate, tickets to Goodwill’s Tux & Trees Gala, and an appearance in a Goodwill advertisement.  More information on the contest is available at http://www.goodwillswfl.org.

“I think a lot of people were impressed by how far Rachell could stretch her hundred dollars,” says O’Donnell. “She used her shopping spree to re-decorate her sons’ bedroom, and still had some money left over for some fun stuff, too.”

Skerlec won the title after three weeks of online voting.  She received 691 votes, narrowly beating Teresa McCoskey of Naples for the title.  Denise Williams of Clewiston and Darren Yonts of Fort Myers were also finalists in the competition.

The four finalists each received a $100 Goodwill shopping spree, which was videotaped and placed on Goodwill’s website.  Visitors to the website had the opportunity to watch the videos before casting their votes.

“We got more than 1,600 votes on our website this year, which was fantastic,” said Kirsten O’Donnell, Goodwill’s Director of Public Relations.  “Our first year, only about 700 people voted online, and this year, we had that many people alone vote for the winner."
