Oct. 9, 2010 - PRLog -- Avon Lake, OH – When it comes to pizza, everyone has an opinion – and the 4th Annual Great Pizza Bake-Off gave community members a chance to speak up.  For the 3rd straight year, people who attended the Thursday, September 30th event chose Coleone’s Pizza & Subs as the winner of “Best Overall Pizza”.  Proceeds from the annual event, sponsored by the Avon / Avon Lake Rotary, benefit the organization’s scholarship fund.

The fundraiser, which was held in the Avon Lake high school cafeteria, marked the start of the town’s homecoming weekend festivities.  Hundreds of people gathered to sample pizza from CiCi’s, Coleone’s, Domino’s, Donato’s, Marco’s, Romeo’s, Teresa’s and Zeppe’s.  After enjoying a wide variety of delicious offerings, ranging from traditional pepperoni to Coleone’s new sausage, egg & cheese “Not-Just-for-Breakfast” pizza, people voted for winners in the categories of:  best specialty pizza, best pepperoni pizza, and best overall pizza.

David Wittschen and Mike Hignett were thrilled to win the event for the third year in a row.  “We had a great time participating in the 2010 Great Pizza Bake-Off.  As an Avon family-owned and operated business, we think it’s important to give back to our community,” said Wittschen.  “This event allows us to contribute to a worthy cause, and to show the public what our loyal customers already know – that we make the best pizza in town.”

When interviewed, Mr. Wittschen also discussed his plans to co-host the 2010 Ride for Life, a 24-hour bikeathon for the American Cancer Society, with Dr. and Mrs. Alex Zolli.  The event, which runs from 3:00 p.m. on Friday, October 22nd to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 23rd, will raise money for the Lorain County chapter of the ACS.  Visit www.coleonespizza.net or call David Wittschen at 440.263.4501 for more information.

Coleone’s Pizza & Subs is located at 1480 Center Road, Suite E in Avon (corner of Route 83 and Chester Roads, across from the new JC Penney’s and Lowe’s shopping center).
