By: Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore Girl Scouts throughout Monmouth and Ocean counties will be selling nuts and magazines from October 1 through November 15. Girls will take orders and hold booth sales during this time period. All products will be delivered in time for Thanksgiving. “The fall nut program provides a jump start at the beginning of the Girl Scout year for girls to work towards reaching goals they’ve set for themselves,” In addition to helping girls reach their dreams, the fall product sale teaches girls essential life skills including customer service, money management and teamwork. Sale activities feature age-appropriate lessons that combine business basics with the fun commonly associated with Girl Scout activities. The program builds leadership financial and literacy skills with girls actively making discoveries and decisions about marketing, budgeting and goal setting. While asking friends and neighbors to buy chocolate covered pretzels or peanut squares, girls are learning valuable life-long lessons. “A great benefit of the product sale is that girls can have fun while learning valuable skills such as customer relations, adapting to change and working as a team,” said Jenny Cody, senior director, program services for the Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore. “These are skills that girls will be able to use throughout their entire personal and professional lives." The 2010 Fall Product Sale is centered on the theme “Design your Future.” Through challenging and thought-provoking activities, participants are encouraged to “construct a plan” and work as a team to create a blueprint of the group’s objectives for the year.
