Caffeinated Popcorn Fuels Ascent of Mt. Washington

On a late summer day in New England, the energy providing power of BioFUEL Caffeinated Popcorn is put to the test with a twelve mile hike to the summit of Mt. Washington.

Oct. 7, 2010 - PRLog -- When Amanda Fitch wanted to test the energy providing effectiveness of her product, BioFUEL Caffeinated Popcorn, she began looking for activities that would take more than just a little effort to accomplish.  Like something inspired by Grandma Boyle of Columbia Sportswear fame, Amanda recruited her husband Matt to be the official tester with a twelve mile hike to the summit of New Hampshire’s own Mt. Washington.

Matt, a manager in the financial services field, spends most of his time behind a desk and hasn't hiked anything more than the stairs in his house in over twenty years.  Acknowledging the potential dangers of this test given the extreme weather patterns of Mt. Washington, they recruited Matthew Stearns of Summit Photography of NH as a guide and photographer for the trek.  Stearns has logged thousands of hiking miles, which notably include all 48 of New Hampshire’s 4,000 foot peaks, completion of the 31.5 mile “Pemigewasset Loop” in only 15 hours and the New Hampshire section of the Appalachian trail.  However, Fitch’s lack of experience was cause for concern considering the history of Mount Washington.  "I've known Matt (Fitch) for several years and know he likes to stay pretty active but this isn't something you should just jump right in to" Stearns said.

"I honestly wasn't sure what to expect" Fitch recalls, "Amanda said 'Let's put this to the test' and I found myself at the base of Washington!"  Timing became a critical factor as Fall in the Northeast quickly approached.  With a roll of the dice, a day in early September was chosen for the experiment.  Prepared with the right gear, enough water and food and BioFUEL, the two set out from the Pinkham Notch Visitor’s Center early in the day.  A day that would in fact prove to be one of the last warm and sunny days on the mountain this year.

Before they hit the trail, Fitch and Stearns consumed some BioFUEL Original Formula and the super caffeine infused BioFUEL XL. The sweet and salty combination has the unique characteristic of acting quickly while sustaining a steady release of energy over time due to the fiber and complex carbohydrates it contains.  An excellent quality to have when looking to fuel a body for a strenuous physical event like this.

Stearns and Fitch soon found they were able to keep a steady pace despite having only eaten the BioFUEL popcorn before setting out.  They made excellent time to the Tuckerman's Ravine cabins where they grabbed a few more handfuls of BioFUEL and pushed on up the challenging and seldom used Boott Spur Link trail.  Once above tree line, they decided to summit Mt. Monroe as an added challenge before ascending the steeps of Washington.  At the peak of  Monroe, Fitch and Stearns took a moment to rest and refuel for their ascent of the tallest mountain in the Northeastern United States.  As the pair raced toward Mt. Washington, BioFUEL was helping to fuel the final two miles of their ascent! With heavy boots beneath them and the power of BioFUEL racing throughout their bodies they reached the 6,288 foot peak and celebrated!

At the end of the day, three important tests had taken place:
1)       BioFUEL Caffeinated Popcorn was successfully tested as an excellent energy producing snack
2)       An experienced hiker trekked the first 8 miles of a challenging ascent on water and BioFUEL Caffeinated Popcorn alone
3)       A novice hiker completed an aggressive 12 mile hike with the assistance of caffeinated popcorn

As Matthew Stearns documented on the Summit Photography of NH website after the trek:  “Trying it for yourself is the only way to know exactly how cool this stuff is. You don’t have to ascend Mount Washington while you eat it…but just know that you could!”
