Recently released market study: Russia Commercial Banking Report Q4 2010

Oct. 8, 2010 - PRLog -- Despite asset and lending growth failing to rebound strongly in H110, we believe the Russian banking  sector should experience a fairly robust recovery over the next 18 months. With real lending rates likely  to fall, stability indicators continuing to improve and strong political pressure to increase lending, we  believe loan supply and demand will pick up markedly. Despite the potential for a rocky 2011 as growth  slows and debt rollover needs rise, we believe there will be major opportunities in banking over the  medium term.    While a recovery is underway in Russian commercial banking, we highlight that the improvement in asset  and lending growth will remain weak over the short term. Total assets grew by 5.4% year-on-year (y-o-y)  in April 2010, up from 2.7% in March and negative growth in January and February.    The lending numbers look even weaker, with the volume of outstanding loans from commercial banks  only just getting back into positive territory to grow by 1.0% y-o-y in April, having contracted in the  previous three months.    The effects are being felt across the economy, although loans to non-financial private institutions (the  companies on the chart below) rose by 0.5% y-o-y in April 2010, compared to a 3.4% contraction for  loans to individuals.
