Oct. 6, 2010 - PRLog -- Humanity has historically used the practice of meditation to relax, unwind and gain mental clarity for centuries in many cultures across the globe. With the pressures of modern life however, we are conditioned to always be on the move, to use our time productively and to never waste it. It's this mind set that can cause problems such as depression, anxiety and make it hard for some people to unwind and relax.

If you're someone who struggles to achieve a deep meditative state, you'll be relieved to hear that you're not alone. Meditation is an easy thing to do when you're alone, up a mountain and inside a tranquil buddhist monastery in the heart of Tibet. So what about if you're living in a loud, bustling metropolis like Tokyo, London or New York? Two words: "BINAURAL BEATS".

Historically, meditation requires a great deal of focus and discipline which sometimes takes years of study to learn. Whilst under meditation, the level of our brain's activity naturally begins to fall towards the lower end of the frequency spectrum. The longer you meditate, the further it falls. Binaural beats can, in essence, cut the middle man out and speeds up this process by helping you focus and block out any excess sensory input that might incur in a busy environment. As mentioned before, there is still a certain amount of skill needed in order to achieve maximum results. Luckily for you however, I've decided to leave you with the following quick step-by-step guide describing the general technique behind meditating.

Step One - Firstly, make sure you're in a comfortable and preferably dim lit setting. If you're opting to use binaural beats, start listening to them now. (Note: binaural beats can only work properly through headphones)

Step Two - Stay upright and keep your spine as straight as possible. Contrary to popular belief, it doesn't really matter if your legs are crossed. The main thing is to that you remain up right.

Step Three - Close your eyes and simply relax. A good way to do this is focus on your breathing. Before long each breath will slow and become more and more rhythmic as time passes.

Step Four - Now just let go. let your whole body just effortlessly hang and your mind wander. When your attention drifts, it's not really a problem. It only becomes a problem when you start to feel less relax, but focusing on your breath again can normally bring you back under again.
