The Tube strike affects all of us!

Oct. 5, 2010 - PRLog -- Yesterday, the RMT and TSSA unions took strike action over planned cuts to 800 ticket office jobs. Tube services were affected throughout the entire day; some lines were suspended or part suspended, some stations were closed.

Not only Londoners, but also tourists and business people use the Underground on a daily basis. TFL states that they take collectively some three million journeys every day, which is equivalent to 150,000 people passing through the barriers every hour!
The Londoners really struggled to go to work yesterday and had to use alternative means of transport. Business people had to postpone meetings and visitors somehow tried to find their way to the capital’s tourist attractions.

JTG Consulting has also been affected by yesterday’s strike action. Many people had to walk to work and lost valuable time to meet with customers. Furthermore, an important client meeting had to be postponed due to the chaotic travel situation.

The London Chamber of Commerce and Industry had warned that the previous tube strike in September did already cost the economy £48 million as reported on London 24. Colin Stanbridge, chief executive of LCCI states on London 24 that during strike action the capital is not “as productive as normal and our reputation as the world's leading business centre” suffers. In summary, the tube strike affects the economy badly, especially after the difficult economic slowdown in the past. It might be some kind of irony that this is what the RMT is striking against.
