WERF congratulates Prof Edwards on Nobel Prize: IVF has helped thousands of women with endometriosis

Oct. 5, 2010 - PRLog -- WERF president, Dr G David Adamson, has paid tribute to Professor Edwards: "His and Patrick Steptoe's research has resulted in an entire new reproductive technology that has brought increased understanding to human reproduction.  Professor Edwards' work emphasizes the value of perseverance in research despite many obstacles in understanding difficult disease processes", said Dr Adamson.

176 million women globally suffer from endometriosis, and millions of these face infertility which, with pelvic pain, is the major consequence of endometriosis.

IVF has helped hundreds of thousands of infertile women with endometriosis to have babies. These women give their thanks to Bob Edwards for making this possible.

WERF is an international charity dedicated to research in endometriosis through large, multi-national clinical trials. WERF knows that IVF will continue to help infertile women with endometriosis have families, and expects its research will also continue to help those with endometriosis in the future.

The World Endometriosis Research Foundation (WERF) was founded in 2006 as the first global charity fostering research in endometriosis to improve knowledge and treatments. It conducts large, multi-national clinical trials and supports research projects investigating disease mechanisms. Through global collaboration amongst researchers WERF wishes to ensure that: collaborative research is carried out between international centres; datasets are shared; encouraging results lead to further research; strict protocols are enforced to ensure research is of high quality; results can be translated into viable treament.
