Bost, who was on location at USA Baby on South Blvd, was interviewed several times throughout the morning by Jon Wilson during the Wilson’s World portion of the broadcast. Topics included product recalls, crib safety, baby gates, and furniture safety. During a segment on product recalls, Bost stressed the importance of filling out product registration cards so parents can be notified by the manufacturer of any recall for that product. “However,” Later in the broadcast, Bost discussed crib safety and the importance of creating a safe sleep environment for babies. “Babies should be placed on their back for sleep and the crib should be free of blankets, pillows, quilts, toys, stuffed animals, and pillow-like crib bumpers,” he said. “These items can restrict the airflow of a sleeping baby and cause suffocation.” Bost also cautioned parents not to place video monitors within reach of the crib. “A baby can grab the monitor cord and pull the excess length inside the crib, posing a strangulation hazard,” he said. In another segment, Bost discussed baby gates and furniture safety. He reminded parents that pressure gates are never recommended for use at the top of the stairs. “Gates at the top of the stairs,” he said, “should be securely mounted with screws.” Later, Bost demonstrated how toddlers are able to tip-over large dressers. He stated that parents sometimes overlook furniture safety because they think a heavy dresser weighs too much for their child to pull it over on themselves. Using an actual dresser for demonstration, Bost pulled each of the drawers out to show how easy it is for a dresser to tip-over. “By opening dresser drawers, the center of gravity begins to shift, and if a child adds their own weight by pulling or climbing on the drawers, the dresser will tip over,” he said as the demonstration dresser nearly crashed to the floor before being caught. Also appearing that morning on the Wilson’s World segments to discuss stroller safety, baby carriers, and car seats were Kate Clark with Britax USA, Jamie Grayson with StrollerTraffic.com, and Lee Franklin, manager of USA Baby. # # # About Palmetto Childproofing Inc Palmetto Childproofing Inc helps parents create a safe home environment for their baby or toddler to live, explore, develop, and grow.
