Oct. 4, 2010 - PRLog -- Washington, Connecticut contemporary classical music composer and pianist, Sharon Ruchman (www.SharonRuchman.com), will host a benefit performance of her original compositions for St. Andrew’s Parish on Main Street in Kent, Connecticut on Sunday, October 10th at 4:00 PM.  Ruchman, accompanied by cellist Mary Costanza also of Washington, Connecticut, will perform compositions from Ruchman’s most-recent CD, “Sharon Ruchman Chamber Music” featuring “Sea Glass”. This is Sharon Ruchman’s first classical chamber music CD and it features eight pieces (18 tracks) that were all performed and recorded in northwestern Connecticut, and released in the fall of 2009.

Named in the September/October 2010 “Yankee Magazine” issue as the “No. 1 Best Foliage Town in New England”, Kent, Connecticut “offers the total foliage experience”, according to the magazine’s editor. Sharon Ruchman commented, “Kent is a stunning town year-round, but we are especially looking forward to a crisp autumn afternoon on October 10th. We are also   looking forward to helping raise funds to support St. Andrew’s Parish with our performance of my original compositions.”

Ruchman, who is currently completing her second contemporary classical music CD, commented, “My music is known to offer a unique, transcending quality. It’s a distinctive, contemporary style that includes a classical music orientation. Some pieces have a chamber music feel, yet others provide an upbeat, yet also soothing, musical quality. Serenity set to melody is how some people have described my unique music.” She explained that, “Most of my pieces are lyrical since I love writing beautiful melodies. Texture also plays an important role in my music, and I believe the pieces I perform offer a real variety of sounds and colors, with all of these textural elements combined.”

In July of 2010, Ruchman and Costanza performed at Pomperaug Woods in Southbury, Connecticut. In March, two of Ruchman’s original compositions, “Day at Play” and “Day’s End”, were featured at the 10th Annual Women Composers Festival in West Hartford, Connecticut. In November 2009, one of her compositions was selected by the National Composers Association to be performed as part of the “Music Under the Redwoods” concert in Portola, California. Since that time, her original compositions have aired on WSHU and WMNR, Connecticut’s two notable classical music stations. “It is very thrilling for me,” commented Ruchman, “to share my musical, and composition, talents with audiences in various areas throughout Connecticut.”

In 2011, on April 9th, Sharon Ruchman, accompanied by cellist Mary Costanza, will perform at 5:00 PM at The Henderson Cultural Center at Hunt Hill Farm in New Milford, Connecticut. Founded by the late musical composer and performer, Skitch Henderson, the Center was founded to “Celebrate American Music, Art and Culture”.
A Yale School of Music and New England Conservatory of Music graduate, Ms. Ruchman will perform pieces on her CD featuring flute, oboe, clarinet and bassoon, piano, violin, viola, and cello. All of the 18 tracks were performed with musicians from throughout Connecticut, and recorded at The Hebbard House in Washington, The Dome in Southbury, and the Kent School Chapel in Kent, all in Litchfield County, Connecticut. The CD was produced in cooperation with Gary Bertz and Wayne Hileman of Candlewood Digital LLC in Washington, Connecticut.

Ms. Ruchman is a member of the American Music Center, the American Composers Forum, and IAWN, International Alliance for Women in Music. She earned her Master of Music (MM) degree at The Yale School of Music, and her Bachelor of Music (BM) degree from the New England Conservatory of Music. She was an accompanist with the New England Conservatory chorus, and she returned to the Yale School of Music to study composition in private lessons with Yale graduate, teacher and accomplished composer, Orianna Webb. “During those studies,” Ruchman recalled, “I never imagined I would compose classical chamber music.”

During Ms. Ruchman’s performance on October 10th in Kent, Connecticut, she will be accompanied by cellist Mary Costanza, and the concert will include pieces from her current CD, “Sharon Ruchman Chamber Music”. The one hour performance will begin with the CD’s ‘signature’ song, “Sea Glass”, followed by “Exultation” (3 movements), “Acceptance”, “Piece for Cello and Piano” (2 movements), “Hope” (2 movements), “Solemnity”, and finish with “Translucence” (3 movements).
