Oct. 4, 2010 - PRLog -- WASHINGTON — Frederick R. Anderson, a partner in the Washington office of McKenna Long & Aldridge LLP, has received the 2010 Award for Excellence in Environmental, Energy, and Resources Stewardship from the American Bar Association (ABA) Section of Environment, Energy and Resources.  Anderson received the award on Friday, Oct. 1, during a special presentation at the section’s 18th Annual Fall Meeting in New Orleans.

“We are proud to see Fred recognized by the ABA with this prestigious award, “ said Chairman Jeff Haidet.  “His remarkable record in law practice and commitment to environmental resources and public policy thought leadership have greatly benefited our clients and the legal community.”

Anderson, a member of MLA’s Environment, Energy & Product Regulation practice in Washington, DC, maintains a flourishing practice that ranges across climate change and green energy projects, natural resources development, strategic corporate counseling, litigation, procurement advocacy, regulatory affairs, and crisis management.  He is currently leading the team defending the nation’s first offshore wind energy project, Cape Wind.

The ABA Award for Excellence in Environmental, Energy, and Resources Stewardship was established in 2002 to recognize the accomplishments of a person, organization or group that has distinguished itself in environmental, energy and resources stewardship.  Anderson was selected for this honor based on his sustained leadership and innovation in the development of the field of environmental law and policy for more than 40 years.

According to letters of nomination submitted to the ABA, Anderson was acknowledged by his peers and colleagues for providing “…an extraordinary public service by being an innovator in the creation and development of environmental, natural resources and energy law” and for his leadership “…in addressing a host of challenging issues at the interface of science and law in the formulation of sound national policy.”

Anderson is a former dean of the American University School of Law and the first full-time president of the Environmental Law Institute.  He was the only attorney ever named by the National Academy of Sciences to its Board on Atmospheric Sciences and Climate.  Anderson serves on the boards of a half-dozen environmental organizations and chairs the board of the Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development.
