Oct. 4, 2010 - PRLog -- While many worried that the new series of Hawaii Five-O may stray too far from the original, the new series is actually proving quite loyal and pleasing committed fans. Alarm bells started when it was revealed that Kono was to be a woman, and many feared that the show may be unrecognisable from the original. But it has revealed itself to be quite like the original, with all the ingredients that made the original so iconic.

So though McGarret may not have the black dye job of the first series, Alex O'Loughlin is just as rigid as Jack Lord was. And while the original McGarret's whole face seemed to crack whenever he smiled, this still remains in the script with the character as maudlin as ever. A comforting factor to all those who prefer their characters a little but down in the dumps as opposed to happy go lucky.

Both versions are quite proficient at mispronouncing names of local places. It took Jack Lord a really long time to nail place names and it seems the new actors are having the same mishaps. If O'Loughlin has a long run in the series perhaps he can actually learn the street names.

And we also see the return of the original show pidgin. The loyal fans were mostly rolling off their seats as the reference appeared in the pilot episode. 'Do you speak bird?' was a knowing self reference designed to please the fans. There are other moments in which their dialogue coach sounds as if they haven't left their homes in thirty years. But all this is fitting within the shows tradition, it's hard not to cringe thinking of McGarret calling Zulu 'you big kanaka'.
The original Hawaii 5-0 programme ran for 12 seasons on CBS, between 1969 and 1980, and so far the new incarnation has had a warm reception, pleasing the followers of the original show.

As with the original show the talky scenes are incredibly long, to tastes this is either the appeal of the show or its downfall, that it is happy to chatter, rather than bursting in to action of three minutes. Though this is not to say that action sequences are absent, in fact they are big show pieces, showing off a great deal of technical capacity. Yet as always the show needs long moments in which the characters can unravel the ridiculously complicated plots to the viewer.

Overall the look of the new show is gorgeous, with more sophisticated technology the colours of Hawaii really come out beautifully. And the show has already done a lot to win over the local, for instance hiring native actors and local for parts, which gives the show air of authenticity. In truth you can't say it too accurately portrays Hawaii, but then a show depicting cops asking homeless people to move on in the streets of Wakiki doesn't sound too entertaining a proposition.

The original show held a huge sway with tourists, can Hawaii rentals expect to see such an impact from the new series?
