JMA which started in 2004 with an enrollment of 60 students for the Nursery, LKG, First Junior and Class1 has grown today till Class VII with well over 400 students. While the school admits both boys and girls, the girl student enrollment has been steadily rising every year and is presently over 40% of the total strength which itself is a matter of pride in a state like Rajasthan which had alarmingly low record of girl’s education.
The teachers and students of JMA Pilani celebrated Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday at the central courtyard of the school. Stating the well known quote of Gandhi “There are many causes that I am prepared to die for but no causes that I am prepared to kill for,” Principal Mrs Booma Natarajan explained to the JMA students the significance of celebrating the Birthday of Mahatma as UN International Day of Non Violence. Pointing out that October 01 is observed as Voluntary Blood Donation day, the principal also highlighted the importance of Blood Donation and urged the young students to spread the message to elders and become donors as they grow up.
After offering floral tributes to the Father of the Nation, the students and teachers sang various songs including the favorite bhajan “Raghupathi Raghava Raja Ram”. Mrs Alka Sharma senior Hindi teacher briefed the students about Lal Bhadaur Sastri whose birthday also fell on October 2nd and who gave India the slogan “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan”
When the celebrations were over, one could see in the beaming faces of the students the pride that they were part of an institution which is a jewel in the crown among the schools at Pilani.
