Rapid Rail Leads Fight Against Rail Freight Price Controls

Oct. 2, 2010 - PRLog -- RAPID RAIL (www.rapid-rail.com) is proud to announce the launch of an online petition to allow members of the rail industry a way to let Congress know that we oppose any legislation that would regulate pricing within the industry. We must stand tall and we must stand together if we are to have any chance of defeating these attempts to pass legislation that will affect us all.

Senator John Rockefeller (D- WV), the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, has recently announced his intention to introduce legislation that would regulate pricing in the rail freight industry. This should be a grave concern to all of us that make our living in this business.

We cannot allow our elected representatives to consider this bill without making our voices heard. This could be devastating to the industry, and would surely cost jobs. Please take just a few moments out of your busy day to join us in letting Congress know how we feel. Sign our petition, which will be delivered to every member of Congress as well as the White House. We will also forward this petition on to every candidate running for Congress this year. Only by doing this do we have a chance to derail this legislation.

And please be sure to forward this on to all of your colleagues, family members, and friends. There is strength in numbers and the more people that we have sign this petition will make those in decision making positions listen more closely to what we have to say.

Members of Congress:

Recently Senator John Rockefeller announced his intentions to introduce legislation that would regulate pricing within the freight rail industry. This is a bad idea!

Regulating prices and profits of the rail industry will only serve to further dampen our already slow economy. This proposed legislation would cost real jobs, manned by real American citizens. Now is certainly not the time to put more of us out of work.

We implore you to consider the effect that such legislation could pose to our economic recovery.  The rail industry is a vital component of our economy, and might even be considered the backbone of our nation and it’s economy. Regulating pricing will do nothing other than hurt this industry, one of the few that is succeeding and growing during these troubling times.

There is no need for this legislation, as there is already ample competition within the shipping industry. Rail companies are in a constant fight for market share, not to mention the intense competition from the trucking industry. This is all that is needed to keep prices within reason.

We thank you for your time and consideration regarding this proposed legislation. We also ask that before you make any decisions concerning this bill that you consult with experts within the industry, and listen to what they have to say. We are sure that if you take the time to do this you will be convinced that this legislation is bad for the rail industry and bad for America.
