January – March is some of the best steelhead fishing of the year. We fish for Winter Steelhead on our Oregon Coastal rivers. Primarily the Alsea, Nestucka and our favorite the Siletz. Winter steelhead average 8 to 10 pounds, 28 to 30 inches with our personal best of 28 pounds and 44 inches long. We fish from a 16 or 20 foot McKenzie River drift boat, equipped with comfortable seating and a heater for cool days. We provide all rods, tackle and bait necessary for our fishing day.
There are as many techniques to catch a steelhead as there are rivers to fish for them. The key to catching steelhead is to match the techniques with the river, weather and water conditions. We do our best to fish where the fish are and to match the method of fishing to the conditions of that day, these two things increase your odds tenfold.
Some Methods of angling;
* Side drifting
* Float and bait
* Float and jig
* Spinners
* Drift fishing
* Back bouncing
* Back trolling plugs
* Indicator fly fishing
* Swinging a fly
The past few years we have had a ball catching winter steelhead on a fly.
Our winter steelhead trips are day trips. We start at daylight and fish to early afternoon; 2:30-3pm. Multiple days can be arranged and there are many good motels and fine restaurants for your accommodation along the Oregon Coast.
We can accommodate 2 or 3 anglers and can accommodate multi boat trips. All fishing, except some fly fishing is done from the boat.
We provide all rods, tackle and opportunity!
Please call us with any questions. We love to talk about the trips and answer any and all questions you may have.
