Sept. 30, 2010 - PRLog -- Detroit, MI – As a business model, and really a life model, Robert Shumake believes in a concept he calls the “double bottom line.”  “To me, this means that if you make a profit, you also have a responsibility to make a difference,” Shumake explained.  “It’s just the right thing to do.”  Robert Shumake is the CEO of Inheritance Capital Group in Metro Detroit and he has joined some very high-profile people who are saying the exact same thing.

Earlier this year, Bill Gates and Warren Buffett announced their Giving Pledge in which they asked the world’s billionaires to give away the majority of their wealth within their lifetime.  “That is essentially the same sentiment as my double bottom line theory,” said Shumake.  “If your success in business brings you monetary gain, you have a moral obligation to use that money to make the world a better place.”

Robert Shumake is not a billionaire, but he has had a fair amount of success.  His company, Inheritance Capital Group, is fortunate enough to manage a portfolio of 3 million square feet of office and warehouse space worth more than $200 million.

“So, I’m still in the process of gaining my fortune, but I definitely believe in giving a lot of it away,” said Shumake.  “I think we all can find it in ourselves to give back, whether monetarily or by volunteering in your community.”

While the Giving Pledge is specifically focused on billionaires, the idea takes its inspiration from efforts in the past and at present that encourage and recognize givers of all financial means and backgrounds.  “We are inspired by the example set by millions of Americans who give generously, often at great personal sacrifice, to make the world a better place,” said Shumake.

Robert Shumake has received recognition for his philanthropic efforts and entrepreneurial success through many honors and accolades including Small Business Leader Crescent Award, Future Leaders of Detroit; African-American Male Empowerment Entrepreneur of the year, Detroit City Council and Man of the Year, Alpha Phi Alpha, to name a few.  Read Robert Shumake’s bio at http://www.robertshumake.me/ to learn more about his many accomplishments.
