Follow on Google News | Crimson & Clover Floral Design: Setting Trends for the HolidaysFloral designer Amy Epstein says inspirations for her designs abound from the catwalk to antique treasures
“Look at the pages of Vogue, Elle Décor and Martha Stewart Weddings and you can see how trends repeat themselves in a common thread,” says Amy. “The trends we love at Crimson & Clover are the new looks that we can get excited about – some even come from our vendors, and their catalogs and what they present to us in terms of containers and other wedding props.” Having just returned from last month’s New York International Gift Fair, Amy was so inspired that the Crimson & Clover team has already started a storyboard for the 2010 holiday season. For Fall & Winter 2010 Amy’s eye is on: • Mercury glass –more easily accessible now and much more affordable than authentic vintage mercury glass. Amy says the new vases and votives are perfect for adding that ‘vintage-y’ • Fantasy and Forest– with a new Narnia movie on the horizon, everything from a magical fantasy feeling to forest wonderland is huge. Incorporating magical feathered trees and muted pastels with natural, earthy, organic flowers and materials will be part of her design interpretation. The trends will be incorporated in both grand gestures as well as small details in her floral designs. • Candy – sweetness blended with nostalgia will be present in soft, ‘sweet’ notes – cupcakes, lollipops, and other interpretations of sugar –dusted goodness that “bring out the kid in all of us” will be a big trend and influence. Amy purchased several 7-foot high white feathered trees for her shop in Roland Park and intends to incorporate them into holiday fantasy scapes for brides, holiday parties and other occasions. “The holidays can be challenging,” This year, Amy has expanded her annual wreath making class, to four groups during the first couple weeks of December to accommodate guests’ busy schedules. Students will have the opportunity to create custom wreaths out of boxwood and juniper with a fix-ins bar to personalize. Light refreshments will be served. All classes begin at 6:30 PM and are $65 per person or two for $100. Dates for the classes are: Tuesday December 7th Thursday December 9th Monday December 13th Wednesday December 15th Classes will be held at 733 Deepdene Road in Roland Park, around the corner from Eddie’s. Crimson & Clover moved from Canton to a larger space on Deepdene Road in Roland Park last June. The new 1,522 foot space has a design center, meeting room and walk-in refrigerated flower market. In addition, Amy has expanded her line of home accessories, including vases, candles and votive holders, personal gift items and even her new “Candy Bar” – clear jars filled with colorful tasty treats. Her flowers come from as close as an organic farm in Annapolis to as far away as Australia and Japan. Amy’s unique artistic take on floral design springs from both her natural ability but also her background in fine arts and interior design. She is the recipient of the 2010 Brides Choice Awards for Flowers & Décor from Wedding Wire, 2008 Best Florist nod from the Baltimore City Paper and a 2007 recipient of the Best of Weddings from The Knot.
