CEWR Continues To Gather Petition Signatures

The Coalition for Equitable Water Rates continues to gather petitions in its goal to protest the proposed 71% water rate increase by Canyon Lake Water Service Company.

Sept. 30, 2010 - PRLog -- The Coalition for Equitable Water Rates (CEWR) continues in its efforts to meet the requisite number of signatures on its petition to be a recognized party in the negotiations with Canyon Lake Water Service Company (CLWSC) over its proposed 71% water rate increase. CLWSC is an investor owned Utility purchased by the San Jose, California based San Jose Water Company in May 2006. Recent signing events at Mountain Springs Ranch, River Crossing, Mystic Shores and other subdivisions represented by the CEWR garnered heavy interest and numerous signatures over the last two weeks.

Local San Antonio Television KENS Channel 5 and KSAT Channel 12 coverage, as well as, radio interviews on KGNB New Braunfels AM1420 concerning the proposed water increase helped spur interest. Local Hill Country papers have run numerous stories helping to educate the public on the proposal and inform them on their options.

The CEWR needs a minimum of 1000 signatures (10% of rate payers) in order to be recognized as a negotiating party in the protest over the proposed rate increase.

On August 27th,CLWSC notified its customers of a proposed a two-phased increase of water rates with the first of 38% in October of this year and the second of 33% in March of 2011. (71% within 5 months)

The Coalition for Equitable Water Rates (CEWR) is a non-profit organization of local residents representing residential and business interests to insure that fair and competitive water rates are provided by the Canyon Lake Water Service Company.
