Oct. 1, 2010 - PRLog -- Egg-Free Epicurean (peanut-free and tree nut-free, too) is an online and wholesale specialty food brand, serving people who have food allergies to eggs, peanuts, or tree nuts with safe bakery offerings of cookies and dessert bars.  The company makes all products by hand in its dedicated facility, located in North San Diego County.

Egg-Free Epicurean is the brainchild of Amy Jones Anichini - a mother of two, wife, financial analyst and food allergy advocate.  Her daughter has several food allergies; Ms. Anichini began baking egg-free desserts so her daughter would have her own delicious treats to bring along to friends' birthday parties.  Her mission was to bake cookies and desserts so irresistible that her daughter -- far from feeling deprived -- rather would feel lucky.  Indeed she often was the envy of her friends and their parents, who admitted they might have preferred what her daughter was eating instead of the birthday cake served by the party's host.

Presently the online shop (http://www.eggfreeepicurean.com) offers cookies, dessert bars, and assortments.  Ms. Anichini plans to add other popular bakery items in the future,  including  cupcakes and muffins.

Egg-Free Epicurean takes several steps to keep its food-allergic customers safe:

1)  Egg-Free Epicurean mixes, bakes and packages all of its products at its own dedicated facility. Nobody but Egg-Free Epicurean uses its space or equipment. In fact, the facility is closed to the public - no one enters without the company's permission and supervision.

2) The company sources all of its ingredients from food manufacturers who understand the seriousness of food allergies, and further screens those ingredients with enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) testing.

3) Everyone who works at Egg-Free Epicurean, even the cleaning crew, has received training to preserve the egg-free, peanut-free, tree nut-free nature of the facility.

4) The product packaging is designed to keep the products’ flavor in and everything else, especially unwanted allergens, out.  Customers might even have to cut the package open; this is actually one of the many ways the company strives to keep its customers safe.  No matter where customers find the product, they can rest assured that it was sealed at the company's dedicated facility and not touched again until they open it to enjoy the bakery-fresh treat.

While the brand's baked goods do not accommodate all food allergic people (the products contain wheat, milk, and soy), its website does.  The company's founders believe that education is the best way to keep those with food allergies safe. Therefore, Egg-Free Epicurean'swebsite contains more pages dedicated to food allergy education than it does to selling desserts.  The website includes an analysis and consumer-friendly translation of the Food Allergen Labeling Consumer Protection Act (FALCPA), a page on food allergy frequently asked questions, and an extensive list of food allergy resource links.  The site also includes a 12 point checklist, with each point commanding its own page, for the newly diagnosed.

About Egg-Free Epicurean: Egg-Free Epicurean is the brainchild of Amy Jones Anichini - a mother of two, wife, financial analyst and food allergy advocate. Shortly after moving to San Diego County, Ms. Anichini learned that her youngest daughter was severely allergic to peanuts and tree nuts, and later, eggs.

These allergies meant the Anichini family's life would change. One big change was that Ms. Anichini would need to provide an alternative for her daughter to eat at birthday parties when the cake was served. Not satisfied at merely giving her daughter something merely ordinarily good, Ms. Anichini aimed to create baked goods so irresistible that the other children and their parents would covet what her daughter was eating.

Once they managed to taste her baked goods they demanded more. Never mind requesting recipes, they requested she provide trays of cookies and cupcakes at their own parties.

So began Egg-Free Epicurean, the bakery you thought you'd never find.
