$259 Million Long Island Senior Living Community to Celebrate Opening

The Amsterdam at Harborside, Nassau County’s first and only life care community, will officially celebrate its opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The ceremony will take place at the community, located at 300 E. Overlook in Port Washington, on Tuesday, October 5, at 1:30 p.m. Residents of The Amsterdam will join with civic and community leaders; representatives of The Amsterdam’s not-for-profit sponsor, Amsterdam House Continuing Care Retiement Community, Inc.; and other development partners to commemorate the milestone.

“We’re very excited that our residents are able to call the community home and experience the extraordinary lifestyle we have to offer,” said Margaret Minichini, executive director at The Amsterdam at Harborside. “We’re privileged to serve our valued residents, and to provide them with the exceptional  level of hospitality and service promised.”

The Amsterdam, which officially started welcoming its first residents on Monday, August 30, consists of 229 independent living apartment and penthouse homes. The $259 million project was financed by the second-largest bond issue in history for a not-for-profit Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC).

In addition to its vibrant, independent living and maintenance-free lifestyle, the community offers a full continuum of care with access to on-site enriched housing, skilled nursing and memory support, if needed. Through life care, residents will never be asked to leave, knowing they will receive the full continuum of care provided by The Amsterdam.

Residents also enjoy such amenities as a state-of-the-art fitness center, an underground parking garage, media room, library and multiple restaurant-style dining venues.
