With the relaxed rules of the appstore, a lot more apps are making it into the appstore. First it was the GVoice apps which allow Google Voice. Next were the ringtone creator apps. And now Apple has allowed an app which will allow users to create their own icons on the iPhone / iPod home screen.
The app recently approved is called Custom Dial. The app allows users to create icons on the home screen of the device with pictures of your own choice. The app Custom Dial 6 at Appstore Link for Custom Dial 6 is priced at 0.99 USD and allows users to create up to 6 custom icons. When the custom dial is touched, the corresponding phone number is dialed. So you can have your best friend's picture on the iPhone screen or your clients. A free version is available for creating just one icon.

Whenever Apple allows a new functionality, the appstore is flooded with apps doing the same thing. Recently the Appstore guidelines added these lines:
“We have over 250,000 apps in the App Store. We don’t need any more Fart apps. If your app doesn’t do something useful or provide some form of lasting entertainment, it may not be accepted.”
But still we see around 20 LED / Flashlight apps in the 100 hottest Utility apps. Hoping Apple really meant that and limit apps doing the same thing to just a handful.
The app, Custom Dial has been developed by Nuvus Technologies, http://www.nuvus.com
