Sept. 28, 2010 - PRLog -- Steamboat, Colo.– Point6, designer and manufacturer of premium merino wool performance socks, recently sponsored a group of individuals, including 84-year old Edna Northrup, on a 100-mile trek to Mount Everest’s base camp this spring.

Outfitted in Point6 hiking and trekking socks, the group spent 11 days completing the 100-mile trek from Lukla, Nepal to South Base Camp on Mount Everest reaching an altitude of approximately 17,590 feet. A self-proclaimed adventure seeker, Northrup is now the eldest woman to have completed the Everest base camp trek. Northrup has also Hiked the Appalachian Trail from Maine to Georgia covering over 2,000 miles in addition to countless other adventures in her time.

“Edna is an inspiration to us all,” said Patty Duke, co-founder and CEO with Point6. “We were touched by her story and it was an honor to support her on her journey. Plus her valuable feedback and experience as a product tester will be instrumental to our product development team moving forward.”

Point6 premium merino wool socks are designed to keep feet comfortable, dry and blister-free and are the perfect companion for extreme climates and harsh conditions such as on Mount Everest. Point6 merino insulates when wet, wicks moisture, keeps the stink to a minimum, and maintains comfort and shape even after days of consecutive wear.

“It has been a privilege to test Point6 socks for the past year,” said Edna Northrup. “I have worn these socks for all of my activities, including my trip to the base camp of Everest and never had a moment of discomfort during the 19-days I spent trekking the Himalayas. I could not be more pleased with this product.”
