Sept. 28, 2010 - PRLog -- Avon Lake, OH – The Bulls did it.  Lance did it.  Will Coleone’s Pizza follow suit?  Come and find out as the Avon Family-Owned Pizzeria defends its title at the 4th Annual Avon/Avon Lake Rotary Great Pizza Bake-Off, to benefit the organization’s scholarship fund.

The event, which will be held in the Avon Lake high school cafeteria on Thursday, September 30th from 5 to 8 p.m., kicks off the town’s homecoming weekend festivities.  Hundreds of people are expected to attend, sampling pizza from CiCi’s, Coleone’s, Domino’s, Donato’s, Marco’s, Romeo’s, Teresa’s and Zeppe’s.  After conducting their “culinary research,” people will vote for winners in the categories of Best Specialty Pizza, Best Pepperoni Pizza and Best Overall Pizza.

For the previous two years, people who attended the Pizza Bake-Off voted Coleone’s Pizza & Subs as the winner of Best Overall Pizza.  This year, David Wittschen and Mike Hignett, owners of Coleone’s Pizza, have something new in store for voters.  “We are extremely excited to defend our title,” says Wittschen.   “At this year’s event, we will be introducing a new pizza that is sure to be a crowd favorite.  We will also be serving our award-winning Cheesy Potato, as well as a New York-style pepperoni.  We hope that this year will be as much fun as last, and look forward to seeing everyone at the event.”

Hignett is thrilled to compete in the event again.  “As a locally-owned company, Coleone’s Pizza loves to get involved in events that directly benefit our community.  The Great Pizza Bake-Off is a fun event for a great cause, and we hope the results will be great for us as well.”

When interviewed, Mr. Wittschen also discussed his plans to co-host the 2010 Ride for Life, a 24-hour bikeathon for the American Cancer Society, with Dr. and Mrs. Alex Zolli.  The event, which runs from 3:00 p.m. on Friday, October 22nd to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 23rd, will raise money for the Lorain County chapter of the ACS.  Visit http://www.coleonespizza.net or call David Wittschen at 440.263.4501 for more information.

Coleone’s Pizza & Subs is located at 1480 Center Road, Suite E in Avon (corner of Route 83 and Chester Roads, across from the new JC Penney’s and Lowe’s shopping center).
