The 2010 Horizon Report: Iberoamerican Edition, online

Sept. 28, 2010 - PRLog -- The 2010 Horizon Report: Iberoamerican Edition is available online from today, 9 September, and can be downloaded from the project’s blog (www.elchr.uoc.edu/) or the NMC website. This publication analyses the potential of emerging technologies as tools for innovation in teaching and learning and, for the first time, focuses on the countries of Iberoamerica. The text is currently only available in Spanish, but it will soon also be published in English, Catalan and Portuguese. The project is a joint-initiative between the UOC’s eLearn Center and the New Media Consortium.

The technologies chosen as those which could have the greatest impact for higher education in the years to come are collaborative environments, social media, open content, mobile devices, augmented reality and the semantic web. The report also includes reflections on the most important trends and challenges for the integration of these technologies in universities and other types of educational centre in Iberoamerica.

An Advisory Board composed of 44 experts on education and technology, from 15 Latin American countries, Spain and Portugal, participated in the research, analysis and discussion carried out for the drafting of the Report. The Advisory Board rated the collaborative work, which lasted four months, very highly. This work combined virtual collaboration – via a wiki platform– with face-to-face reflection and discussion in Puebla, Mexico, in mid April.
So far, the report has been presented to the international community at the NMC Summer Conference in California and at the Encuentro Internacional Vitual Educa in the Dominican Republic. In the coming months, there will be more and more events to publicise the report, especially in Latin America and the countries of the Advisory Board members. The goal is to promote this report as a discussion document within the academic community, and within the related professional sectors, including the teaching community, technology experts, cultural management experts or those in charge of fostering new educational policy.

The eLearn Center (eLC) and the New Media Consortium (NMC) are institutions dedicated to the study of innovative use of technology for learning. The eLearn Center is the UOC’s centre for research, innovation and training in e-learning.
