Sept. 28, 2010 - PRLog -- Visions in The Nunnery returns to The Nunnery gallery in Bow this October. This annual programme of exhibition and events showcase an international selection of moving image artwork, film and performance. Featuring recent work by both established and emerging artists, Visions in The Nunnery presents a vibrant snapshot of the contemporary moving image landscape and provides a rare opportunity to view work by a wide range of practitioners working with this versatile and powerful medium.

Following an international appeal to artists working with moving image and film, more than six hundred submissions were received. Visions directors and curators, Tessa Garland and Cinzia Cremona, with assistance from guest curators Rebecca Savage and Valentina Ferrandes, then selected 36 artists to take part in this diverse exhibition opening on the 1st October 2010. Visions in The Nunnery is renowned for providing an unique opportunity to view major work by established artists of international reputation alongside new and unseen work by the next generation of moving image artists. Curators Cinzia Cremona and Tessa Garland explain that “bringing such an eclectic selection of new and underground art work to a public gallery space really gives people a chance to see what’s happening right now in the world of moving image art practice”. The exhibition will include work by Reynold Reynolds, Rä di Martino, Elodie Pong, Rosie Pedlow and Joe King. Visions in The Nunnery is also hosting the British premiere of Michael Mazière’s new work Actor.

Visions in The Nunnery also supports a network of artists through its website. The site includes an archive of films shown in previous years and provides an online forum for discussion and debate.

In addition to the exhibition, which runs from the 2nd – 17th October, Visions in The Nunnery also encompasses a diverse range of talks and events, starting with the 2010 Critical Forum, taking place on Sunday 3rd October. At Moving Mountains – do moving image practices change the world? an invited panel of artists and curators will discuss how moving images function in the ‘real world’ and affect our relationship with the world we live in. Speakers include Michael Mazière, Jini Rawlings and Richard Wright. Moving Mountains is organised in collaboration with, and supported by, the Centre for Research and Education in Arts and Media (CREAM), University of Westminster.

On Saturday 9th October, guest curator Louisa Fairclough, from the arts platform Mezzanine will present an afternoon of films, performance and drawing exploring ideas of memory and its association with place.  This event includes work by Tacita Dean, Susan Collins, Phil Coy, Kathleen Herbert and Jayne Parker.

On Saturday 16th October, there will be an evening of performance art works curated by Cinzia Cremona and featuring internationally acclaimed artists Franko B, Bill Aitchison and Richard Layzell.  Entitled Performance in the Nunnery: Move Me!, this is the inaugural performance event to take place as part of Visions in The Nunnery and promises to be a spectacular evening.
