Australia are the defending world champions of masters indoor cricket, last played in New Zealand in 2008.
Will is a regular face on and off the field at Asian Cricket Sixes Tournaments, particularly the Phuket International Cricket Sixes, and it is obviously a great honour for him to have been selected to represent his country in this Indoor Cricket World Cup.
The Asian Cricket Sixes Tour was delighted to hear of Will’s selection for Australia and is contributing as a sponsor to his participation in the tournament.
“It’s fantastic that Will has earned this chance to represent his country, we’re proud to be able to support him and we wish him all the best for the tournament,”
Interview With Will Badger:
ACST Media Director Mark Burns caught up with Will recently and asked him to share his thoughts about the tournament and his selection for Australia.
Mark: Why do you want to play in the tournament?
Will: It’s a world cup and I’ll be representing my country.
Mark: How tough do you think the competition will be? Which are the teams to watch out for?
Will: The competition is going to be very tough. You have to be on your game the whole time as one lapse of concentration can cost your side the game. New Zealand and South Africa I think will be the sides to beat.
Mark: Who are the "stars" of the tournament likely to be?
Will: It’s hard to say who the stars will be as I don’t know who is playing for the other countries and won’t know until the event starts.
Mark: Which team will you be playing for and what's your goal?
Will: I’m playing for Australia. My goal is to retain the World Cup which we won in 2008.
Mark: What are your team mates like?
Will: The guys in the team are all good blokes; we have a very good squad.
Mark: What preparations will you be doing for the tournament?
Will: A lot of training is needed to prepare for the event and also training camps as a squad.
Mark: Apart from the obvious reason, is indoor cricket really different to outdoor cricket?
Will It’s a little different to outdoors cricket for example when playing a shot you need to get it up over the fielder to have any chance of making it to the other end without being run out. A dismissal is minus 5 every time you get out.
Mark: Like Asian Cricket Sixes Tour tournaments there'll be teams from all around the world competing, how do you feel about that?
Will: It’s a buzz to be playing in this worldwide tournament just like when I travel to ACST events.
Mark: Are you going to have a cheer squad?
Will: The stadium is going to be packed full of supporters from all around the world.
Mark: Who are your favourite cricketers?
Will: Brett Lee, who a very good mate of mine, Mark Waugh, and of course the great Saurav Chatterjee.
Mark: All the best for the tournament!
Will: Thanks!
