Sept. 27, 2010 - PRLog -- Each year thousands of pedestrians are harmed or killed in road accidents. Most of these accidents should be avoidable but sometimes driver distraction play a large part of these statistics. Volvo has just unveiled a device in the new 2011 Volvo S60 called PedestrianSafety to help combat this worldwide problem.
PedestrianSafety works with a radar-based computer system that can actually detect when a human is in front of the vehicle. If the driver fails to stop the car the system steps in and stops the car for the driver with a two-stage braking system that works up to speeds of 22 miles-per-hour. This is an enhancement of the CitySafety system which is standard on the all-new Volvo S60 and Volvo XC60.
Dan Lehr, Marketing Manager for Lehman Volvo sums it up: “Reducing injury from every aspect of driving shows that Volvo is still at the forefront of Safety Technology.”
