An Event that Mark Twain Would Be Proud Of

Sept. 27, 2010 - PRLog -- Mark Twain whose real name was Samuel Langhorne Clemens; he was a very popular person who was friends with many presidents, artists, industrialist and even European royalty.  He was a famous author who has been dubbed “the father of American Literature”

His most famous novels are the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and The Adventures of Tom Sawyer.  Both reflected on the early stages of Mark Twain's life, Tom Sawyer was related to his life in Hannibal and Sawyer reflects Twain as a child.  It was in The adventures of Tom Sawyer where Huckleberry Finn was introduced.  Huckleberry Berry Finn was based on Twain's childhood friend Tom Blankenship.  Huckleberry Finn which has been called the first Great American Novel by some and is featured as a requirement in Some American schools, this tale was much more serious than Tom Sawyer.

Mark Twain spoke of Lake Tahoe he wrote that it is the “jewel of Sierra” which can be backed up because Lake Tahoe gets loads of visitors that visit the many wonderful attractions or stay in their tranquil Lake Tahoe vacation rentals.

It is said that you couldn't make a complete bibliography of his work, this mainly stems to the amount of pieces Twain has written, he wrote in a lot of obscure newspapers and he used several different pen names.  Also add to the fact that many of his speeches and Lectures weren't written down or are lost.  The known pen names that he has used are Josh and Thomas Jefferson.

You can say that Mark Twain's legacy continues to strive every year as Lake Tahoe holds the annual Mark Twain's Wild West Weekend.  This weekend event honours Mark Twain's life and influence of his life and work.  On the day visitors get to meet Mark himself, well an impressionist who goes by the name McAvoy Layne.  He acts as an overseer of the whole event and is very much a part of all the activities that happen over the weekend.

There are many activities that happen at this popular weekend that is fun for everyone.  If you're a foodie then there are activities such as a pie eating competition where contestants will have 20 minutes to eat as many cherry pies as they can.  Also there is a Chilli Cook Off in which some of the best amateur chef's in Lake Tahoe come out to showcase their best efforts.
