Wally Edgar Chevrolet Dealer -- CHEVROLET Appoints Advertising Director

Sept. 24, 2010 - PRLog -- Chevrolet Advertising and Sales Promotion, the division of the American manufacturer in charge with advertising the products of the brand, announced yesterday it has snatched the former director of marketing communications of Subaru of America, Kevin Mayer.

Mayer will take charge of the division on October 4, bringing with him 13 years of automotive career. He started working for Hyundai Motor America in 1997, holding several positions in the South Korean carmaker's corporate strategy, marketing, promotions and advertising departments.

The executive moved to Subaru in 2007, after being employed by Colby and Partners, and serving as director of advertising and marketing for Mitsubishi Motors of America.

Mayer holds a bachelor’s degree in communications from Purdue University, and a masters in business administration from the UCLA Anderson School of Management.

“Kevin has consistently demonstrated a unique ability to engage the customer and build a relationship with the brand – and ultimately the products - through bold strategies,” Joel Ewanick , GENERAL MOTORS vice president of Marketing said in a statement.

“Kevin will be an asset to the entire CHEVROLET team, especially as we continue the launch of two very important vehicles - the CHEVROLET VOLT and CRUZE.”

Separately, CHEVROLET announced yesterday the appointment of Spike DDB, an advertising agency partially owned by film director Spike Lee, as the agency of record in charge with African-American customers.

Spike thus becomes the fourth agency of record in charge with promoting the CHEVROLET brand, joining the existing partners Goodby, Silverstein and Partners and LatinWorks.

"We believe we’ve sought out and found the right agency partners for CHEVROLET,” Ewanick said. “CHEVROLET has always been an inclusive brand and we want all our agencies to help us get that message to consumers.”
