Sept. 23, 2010 - PRLog -- For 25 years, the Toyota 4Runner has stayed true to its sport utility roots, and the new 2010 4Runner continues the tradition. There's new, broad-shouldered styling that suggests the ruggedness of the underlying mechanicals. Sporting a full frame and true four-wheel drive system that utilizes a two-speed transfer case in SR5 and Trail models and a full-time locking center differential in 4Runner Limited models, this peak refinement of the traditional SUV is a true contender when the pavement runs out. http://www.davidmaustoyota.com

Augmenting the baked-in 4x4 goodness, the 2010 4Runner has been designed with an eye toward usability. The goal was to fill the 4Runner with features and space to accommodate every day use. The interior is larger than previous 4Runners, and newly designed front seats and reclining second-row seats bump up the comfort. Despite the 4Runners manageable size, there's also a third row of seats, and luxurious leather upholstery is standard on Limited models and optional for the SR5.

Toyota's highly regarded Land Cruiser donates some features like the Kinetic Dynamic Suspension system (optional on 4Runner Trail models), which allows more suspension travel for better capability on tough terrain. Standard for Trail models is CRAWL, a system that holds vehicle speed steady when the transfer case is in low range so the driver can concentrate on steering. All 4x4 trim levels carry Downhill Assist Control that controls speed on downhill grades, too.

When it's not full to the brim with people, the 2010 Toyota 4Runner has plenty of flexible cargo space. Second-row seats fold easily and leave a flat floor, as do the third-row seats. An available cargo deck pulls out and can support more than 400 pounds. Toyota's Star Safety system is standard, loading the 4Runner's safety arsenal with Vehicle Stability Control, traction control and antilock brakes.

The 4Runner’s $27,500 price of entry nets you one of the best, most modern, yet still tough SUVs on the market. Coil springs and gas-charged shock absorbers support the 4Runner and provide a precise, well-controlled balance of ride and handling. Limited trim 4Runners are equipped with Toyota's X-REAS suspension that automatically adjusts the shock absorber damping for more control without harming comfort.

It's bigger, supremely capable and safer, so what's under the hood? Toyota uses its 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine with VVT-i in two-wheel drive 4Runner SR5 models. The four cylinder's 157 hp uses a four-speed automatic transmission and can return up to 18 mpg city and 23 mpg highway. A new 4.0-liter V6 whips up a 270 hp fury, thanks to dual VVT-i. The V6 makes more power than the previous generation 4Runner's optional V8, and is still efficient enough to deliver 17 mpg city and 23 mpg highway in 4x2 trim, and 17 mpg city and 22 mpg highway for 4x4s. The V6 is also brawny enough to enable a 5,000-pound towing capacity.
