Gospel Fest Youth Benefit Cancelled by City of Lauderhill, FL

Sept. 23, 2010 - PRLog -- On Saturday, September 12, 2010 would have marked a fundraising event to remember for the YMCA Youth. However, due to the City of Lauderhill, FL last minute code enforcement information indicating the location of the event wasn't zoned for this type of event, it never took place.

The YMCA Gospel Fest Benefit Concert was cancelled at the last minute and Police Department made several threats to shut the event down if it took place. After four months of planning and securing major and local sponsors to raise funds to support youth programming for two YMCA organizations in Broward County, the event couldn't take place. The event had great supports that gave their time, resources and items. An OLIA pool table was donated and the proud sponsors included: Starbucks, Inverrary Golf & Country Club, WEXY 1520AM, Broward Gospel Announcer's Guild, Eclipse Graffix of NJ, Triumfant Muzik, Behind the Veil Records, Divine Purpose Associates, SKD Entertainment, ViceRoy Champ Music, Adrian Wilson and the Antioch Missionary Baptist Choir of Pompano Beach, FL and many others.

It was considered a hazard, a potential noise pollution and traffic concern by the City of Lauderhill. Nonetheless, approval was granted by Lt. Rocco of the City of Lauderhill Police Department to only be overturned by the City of Lauderhill. No one will speak with the committee members of the event. However, were told to have the event at a local city park that would require a 6-8 week permit approval.

The youth were disappointed along with YMCA Board members. We hope to raise the $9,000 to continue the afterschool programs were YMCA serves daily to keep children active and not on the street misbehaving.
