Sept. 23, 2010 - PRLog -- Washington, D.C. (September 22, 2010) – September 19-25, 2010 is Prostate Cancer Awareness Week and Talking About Men’s Health’s most recent blog post shares a few quick tips for staying competitive in the battle against prostate cancer. The mission of Talking About Men’s Health is to provide a platform for discussion on men, boys, and family health issues.

Deanna Fowler, MPH, Community Health Promoter at Women Against Prostate Cancer, authored the post, in which she provides advice and statistics about the disease. Prostate cancer is the most common form of cancer in American men and can be diagnosed in men as early as in their 30’s. Two million American men have been diagnosed with prostate cancer with African-American men 40% more likely than Caucasians to be diagnosed with the disease.

Fowler provides a few ways in which one can take an active role in their health, including maintaining healthy eating habits, exercising, and keeping smoking, alcohol intake, and unnecessary stress to a minimum. Also, staying knowledgeable about one’s family history and scheduling regular check-ups with one’s health physician are key for men to stay healthy.

Deanna’s work involves the execution of various programs and services related to outreach and health promotion within minority, underserved, and faith communities across the country. Ms. Fowler holds both a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and Master of Public Health degree in Maternal and Child Health Policy from the University of Alabama-Birmingham.
