Sept. 23, 2010 - PRLog -- Trick or treat? How about both?  The doctor is in this Halloween season and he's recommending a dark and chilling tale. For those who are lucky (or is it unlucky) enough, he's filling the prescription for free!

Dr. Gary Solomon, aka The Movie Doctor, is currently celebrating the release of  his first novel A Ballad for Allison Porter. To help readers get into the spirit of Halloween, he's giving away copies of the book to fans each Friday in the month of October.

"Friend a 'killer,' get a thriller" drawings will be held October 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29.

Anyone on the fan list at Facebook.com/BalladforAllison gets one entry into the drawing. If fans post on the Facebook page, post on their page, blog about the book, post videos talking about the book, etc., they will get additional entries into the drawing for everything they do.

In addition to Facebook, which is in no way associated with the giveaway, fans can check out the book's official site at ABalladforAllisonPorter.com. Fans get extra drawing entries for posting links to the site, which just went live this week. They can also join the contest blog hop on SocialMediaChad.com. For all extra entries to be official, they must email WinaThriller@gmail.com with links to the postings.

The 192-page book has been described as "one part murder mystery, one part psychological thriller." The story is about the life of a seemingly-unassuming young woman, who admits to killing her suburban Portland next-door neighbors in cold blood.

Allison Porter is a woman no one would have expected to commit murder. However, the secrets she keeps from a horrible past, unveiled via flashbacks, create sympathy for the killer and understanding of why she committed the heinous act.

"It's really a one-of-a-kind book," said Social Media Consultant Chad Clinton Freeman of SocialMediaChad.com, a writer, filmmaker and critic. "It's a thriller with a lot of psychology and there are some graphic horror aspects as well. On top of that, it reads very much like a movie. Monster, Hard Candy, An American Crime, May and even Silence of the Lambs came to mind while I was reading it."

Dr. Solomon has spent close to 30 years of practice in the field of psychology. The College of Southern Nevada professor is the creator and world authority in the field of Cinematherapy , a process that analyzes film for its psychological content to diagnose psychiatric conditions, social disorders and substance abuse issues.  He is currently looking to turn his faux true crime story A Ballad for Allison Porter into a feature film.

Published by Aslan Publishing, A Ballad for Allison Porter is available in paperback at Amazon.com.
