Yale Divinity Student & Gospel Hip Hop Artist J Prophet Releases New CD & DVD

(MOUNT VERNON, NY) –September 20, 2010…Gospel Hip Hop Artist J PROPHET has just released his new mixtape entitled GETTING MY SHAPE UP VOL. 1.  In addition, J PROPHET has also released a DVD of his New York City debut performance at Uptown Grand located in Harlem, NY entitled “LIVE IN HARLEM”, available on his website www.jprophet.com. The DVD also features special performances by Gospel singer Antoine and spoken word artist Joshua Bennett.  

J PROPHET fuses his passion for Hip Hop Culture with his commitment to God’s Word to deliver powerful messages of hope and deliverance.  “The Spirit was definitely in the atmosphere at Uptown Grand! It was a wonderful worship experience and artistic endeavor filled with energy and love. “I believe the individuals who view the DVD will be blessed by my ministry and the ministries of Antoine Dolberry and Joshua Bennett” said J PROPHET.
His sound has been heavily influenced by Gospel artists such as Kirk Franklin, Mary Mary, and Cross Movement. Comments from concert attendees included the following:

GETTING MY SHAPE UP VOL. 1 offers introspective reflection as well as social commentary on each song.  Tracks like “Overdosin,” “Threatened,” “Procab Interlude (Au Naturale)” and “I’m Flying” highlight the challenges and triumphs of the Christian journey.  “Exhibit A (Speak to Me)” and “Undercover Angels” are both songs that rely on story-telling to convey the presence of the Holy Spirit in everyday life while tracks like “Over the Land” which features Joshua Bennett and “Sky is the Limit” which features Antoine deliver important messages of peace, love, and faith.  This project also features remixed and remastered versions of “He Is Shining,” “All I Need,” and “I Ain’t Scared,” which all appeared on Ghostwriter Vol. 3: Hope in the Valley.    

A 2010 graduate of Yale University where he received his Bachelor of Arts in African-American Studies, J PROPHET is now attending Yale Divinity School where he has begun a three-year Master of Divinity Program.
