Sept. 22, 2010 - PRLog -- Chawston-based specialist chilli growers, Edible Ornamentals have been chosen to supply their seasonal range of chillies as part of Harrods Festival of British Foods Fortnight, which will be featured at their Food Halls and Restaurants in Knightsbridge until 3rd October.

Chef Valentine Warner, who is best known for his television programme “What to Eat Now” is partnering Harrods for the event.  He is renowned as a champion of small, British, innovative food producers and has handpicked his favourite producers to bring the finest produce to the British palate.  He said: “Each supplier we are working with has produced something truly delicious and with great love and attention, so people duly need to know about them.”

Edible Ornamentals Joanna Plumb grows over 40 different varieties of chillies, from the mild Anaheim chilli to one of the world’s hottest chillies, the eye-watering Dorset Naga. She commented “It is a real coup for us to be recognised by Harrods as one of Britain’s specialist food producers.  There is a growing demand from discerning shoppers for fresh locally grown produce.  Fresh chillies have far more flavour than those that have been transported from overseas, and because they are locally transported, it helps to reduce the carbon footprint. Our chillies can be on the food hall shelves within 24 hours of being picked at our Bedfordshire nursery.”

2010 is proving to be a very busy year for Edible Ornamentals.  Joanna has become renowned for her fresh chillies, chilli plants and gourmet sauces and has recently won the contract to supply Fortnum and Masons with seasonal chillies.

In August Joanna opened ‘The Edible Kitchen’ to cater for the increasing number of chilli aficionados who visit their Cherwood Nurseries in Chawston to pick their own chillies and vegetables.
