Sept. 21, 2010 - PRLog -- Learn to ski or snowboard season passes for Mt Baldy are being offered through the Chamber of Commerce for only $49.00.

“The special season pass includes one free ski or snowboard lesson and unlimited access to the beginner  area for the entire season. We don’t think there is a better deal at any resort anywhere in the country,” states Keith Hunt President of the Mt Baldy Chamber of Commerce.

Mt Baldy is the closest ski resort to most of Los Angeles County and the Inland Empire and all of Orange and San Diego Counties.

“We are making this offer for two main reasons, it makes sense to increase our skier database and secondly to change the image that non-skiers have of the industry.”

“As an industry, quite often we present skiing as dangerous and expensive. How do non-skiers get these perceptions?  They come from the media especially TV that show skiers flying through the air in expensive clothing and equipment.”

“Olympic skiers are shown whizzing through gates on the Giant Slalom at 40 to 50 miles an hour down a mountain that looks almost vertical. Occasionally a skier misses an edge and takes an endless tumble taking gates and advertising banners with him.”

“If the tumble is dramatic enough it will be frequently repeated and even make it onto one of the “Most Outrageous Videos” shows.”

“These are some of the images that lead non-skiers to think “not for me thank you” so it’s not surprising that sport doesn’t make it to the short list of things to do that day, or in fact, any day.”

“Yet the same people will watch multi-million dollar Formula 1 cars tearing up the track at 200 miles per hour then missing a turn and hitting the hay bales. Based on the same logic we would never learn to drive, and therefore never buy a car and our freeways would be empty.”

“But that is not the case. People know that beginners driving lessons are not conducted on a Formula 1 circuit at 200 mph, but rather in a deserted parking lot or on a quiet street.

“Somehow this same logic does not translate to skiing. It does not occur to the non skier that a mountain can have flat slopes and that is where beginners get their first skiing lessons. Your driveway probably has a steeper gradient than the Mt Baldy Ski School slopes!”

“Check out this short video that shows the gentle slopes for beginners http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zS6RaPPA8ns

“With our $49.00 Learn to ski or snowboard season pass we want to encourage people to give the sport a try at a very minimal cost, on gentle slopes by qualified instructors,” concludes Hunt.

Mt Baldy is immediately north of Upland and Claremont just minutes from the 210 Freeway

These special passes are available through the Mt Baldy Chamber of Commerce and cannot be purchased directly from the Ski Area. For more information please go to www.mtbaldychamber.com
