Here are a few suggestions of places in and around Flagstaff to see this annual show of color:

■ Walk among the foliage at the Arboretum at Flagstaff. The 200 acre, botanical garden is home to hundreds of native plants and trees, ideal to experience the change of seasons. Located just four miles south of Route 66 on Woody Mountain Road. www.thearb.org

■ The networks of outdoor trails provide the perfect backdrop for a leafy, autumn stroll. With more than 50 miles of completed trails, the Flagstaff Urban Trail System (www.flagstaff.az.gov/futs) is a good choice for a leisurely walk, while the more challenging Coconino National Forest (www.fs.fed.us/r3/coconino) trails are ideal for taking a hike or bike ride. Depending on their location, the trails vary in difficulty and access.

■ A favorite location among leaf-peepers, Hart Prairie is known for its giant stands of aspen and stunning views of the San Francisco Peaks. Just a short drive up Highway 180, Hart Prairie Road is a 10-mile dirt loop.
