Majorca and Ibiza Take Top Spots for Summer 2010

Sept. 21, 2010 - PRLog -- With the summer season drawing to a close, online travel company http://www.lowcostholidays.com has released the winners and losers of their summer bookings.  Old favourites Majorca and Ibiza return to the top of the list this summer with both proving to be hugely popular destinations. Turkey and Egypt headed the list last summer and fall just behind the top spots.  Cyprus, Costa Del Sol and Costa Dorada were the losers of the summer with deals generally not as well priced as other short haul beach destinations.

Commenting on the summer, Paul Evans, CEO of lowcostholidays.com said, “Majorca and Ibiza top our list of summer holiday destinations this year with both offering a great selection of good value apartments and hotels.  Our bookings to Majorca were up over 50% year on year and more than 60,000 customers booked their holiday to Ibiza with us.  Long haul destinations including the Caribbean, Florida, Las Vegas and Mexico are up over 100% year on year as they are more affordable than ever with holiday makers using websites such as ourselves to find the best deals.”  

The Canary Islands proved to be an unexpected big winner this summer due to good low cost carrier flight prices and great value hotel deals.  Bookings to Fuerteventura were up a massive 500% year on year and Gran Canaria was up 400% year on year.  Bulgaria also performed well over the summer, up 400% year on year with cheap flights and reduced hotel rates ensuring some great value deals.

Overall bookings to Costa Del Sol and Costa Dorada increased but these were lower increases year on year due to price led competition from other ‘newer’ destinations encouraging holiday makers to go elsewhere.
