Follow on Google News | Prince Charles Congratulates Manchester's Mr Carbon NeutralCity 'Green' Campaigner Has Shown that the Built Environment Can Be Sustainable, says Prince
By: Carl Nagaitis The Prince was referring to the creation of solar panel powered, energy-efficient student accommodation, across the south of the city by Stephen’s Rusholme-based company Beech properties. The royal missive was in response to a letter from Stephen in which he told Prince Charles that his decision to invest in solar panels for the 180 years old Clarence House had set a ‘compelling example’ for others to follow. Stephen, dubbed Manchester’s Mr Carbon Neutral in recognition of his commitment to energy efficiency, had closed his royal letter with a cheeky invitation to the Prince to visit the HQ of his company Beech Solar while on a national tour. “Unfortunately the Prince couldn’t fit me into his busy schedule,” said Stephen from his office yesterday. “Nevertheless I was delighted that he had taken the time to respond so quickly to my note. “I was impressed by his decision to invest on solar power for Clarence House and I do believe others will follow his example. Happily, here in Manchester we are doing a bit to stay ahead of the game by explaining the huge benefits to the environment and to family finances. “Most people simply don’t understand how much money they can save by going solar, not just in terms of producing their own power but by becoming eligible for very generous Government grants called Feed-In Tariffs that will pay dividends for 25 years.” Stephen recently won a Consumer Benefit Award in recognition of the energy efficiency of his student rooms at the Energy Innovation Awards.
