First Issue of Digital Comic IN MAPS & LEGENDS Launches

Sept. 20, 2010 - PRLog -- IN MAPS & LEGENDS, an ongoing digital comic illustrated by Niki Smith and written by Mike Jasper, launched its premiere issue this month, with future issues coming every six weeks. Readers can purchase, download, and read the contemporary fantasy comic from a variety of quality online distributors, including Comixology, Graphic.ly, and DriveThruComics.

Back in November, IN MAPS & LEGENDS won the prestigious Zuda competition, hosted by DC Comics. The comic began life as a weekly webcomic at the Zuda site, until DC Comics shut down the Zuda site in July. Since that time, artist Niki Smith and writer Michael Jasper set in place their plan to publish the comic themselves, using a variety of online distributors to sell it.  

This comic about a young woman caught up in a plot between our world and at least one other re-launched on Sept. 1, with issue 2 due in mid-October.

Readers can purchase and download Issue 1 in a range of digital formats, including iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad versions, plus versions for the Droid phone, the Kindle, and the Web (PDF & HTML). Issues sell for $.99 each.

The target audience is for fans of The Sandman and LOST -- supernatural urban fantasy with a hint of science fiction wrapped up in it. Here's a quick summary of the storyline:

Kaitlin Grayson considers herself just an artist until she gets recruited by a strange man named Bartamus, who shows up at her place in the middle of the night and demands she use her skills to save his dying world. Soon Kait gets caught between two worlds, and if Bartamus’ world falls, Earth is next — along with untold other worlds.
